Design and create your own majestic barn owl using a beautiful array of sustainable coloured fleece and local Dorset wood, in the inspirational setting of The Blue Pool and grounds.
On this new two day workshop, fibre artist Carla Taylor of The Mousehole Woolery, will guide you through the basic techniques of needle felting. She will share her love and passion for local Dorset and British wool, plus lots of the tips and tricks that she has learnt along the way.
The technique of needle felting involves using special barbed needles to repeatedly stab and sculpt wool fibres together to form both 2d and 3d forms, transforming loose sheep's fleece into your own unique sculptural design. Carla will share with you how to bring your sculptures to life by looking in more detail at the proportions, individual shapes, colours and details of the beautiful majestic barn owl. You will be creating these features using intricate felted shapes, a wire armature that will be provided, the mixing and layering of different wools using different felting needles and the use of clay to create both beaks and claws.
By the end of the course you will have created your own magical barn owl mounted on a beautiful piece of locally sourced Dorset wood. A fun, creative, inspiring and relaxing retreat in the countryside with like-minded friends. Suitable for both beginners and those with some experience of needle felting.
