Autumn Woodland Needle Felting Workshop - 26th October 2023
The workshops are either morning or afternoon and will run from 10am-1pm and 2pm-5pm. Please arrive at 9.45am or 1.45pm, respectively, dressed ready for our short walk around the farm, weather permitting.
Love wool? Then you will love needle felting!
Fibre artist Carla Taylor of The Mousehole Woolery will guide you step by step through the basic techniques of needle felting as well as sharing lots of tips and tricks that she has learnt over the last nine years in her own felting journey. The day will start off with a short walk around the farm to see our flock of sheep, along with a discussion about the history of wool and needle felting. The Mousehole Woolery and Gutchpool Farm are both official supporters of the Campaign for Wool and we want to share our passion for British wool, showcasing the beauty, worth and diversity of this biodegradable and sustainable material and how it can be used.
Within the workshop Carla will discuss the equipment used within the therapeutic craft of needle felting and the variety of inspiring wools and fibres that can be used including fleece from Gutchpool Farm's award winning Dorset Down flock and Shetland and Poll Dorset Sheep. Inspired by the autumn colours of the British countryside you will learn how to create pumpkins, acorns, autumn leaves, fungi and conkers using a beautiful array of locally sourced and naturally plant-dyed wool. These can then be transformed into a garland/wreath to decorate your home with, or worn as an autumn brooch!
These two half-day workshops are suitable for both beginners or those with some experience of needle felting. We welcome children over the age of 10 years with an accompanying adult to also take part in the workshop.
All materials will be provided, as well as a needle felting kit that you get to keep, take home and carry on creating with. Tea, coffee and cake is also included in the price. Please let us know about any dietary requirements in the box above. Please note that sharp felting needles are used in this workshop therefore finger protectors will be available to purchase at a small cost on the day of the workshop if required.
